Denise Dougiello Young Turk Award
Both the lifeblood and the future of Fairfield’s Democratic Party are represented in its newest members. They are attracted to Fairfield’s political scene because they believe that every citizen must give back in some small measure to the vibrant community that we enjoy.
Over 40 years ago a young band of Democratic newcomers led by John Sullivan were dubbed the Young Turks. They challenged the status quo and were successful in transforming the Democratic Town Committee into a vibrant source of ideas and initiatives. In the process, they transformed the political landscape in Town and set in motion the unprecedented post-war development that created today’s Fairfield.
This award is given annually, at the Century Club Brunch, to an individual who is active in the party. That person has contributed in an exceptional way toward meeting its goals and objectives. This may be someone who has brought new energy to the party and contributed to moving it into the future. This could include work on a crucial Board or Committee of the Town. It might also include such efforts as fundraising for the party, issues advocacy or development, research, campaigning, volunteering for voter signup/turnout, participation in one of the active committees.
Nominees for this award come from the membership of the Democratic Town Committee and are voted on by a majority vote of the party leadership comprising the current officers and district leaders.
